I love your blog. Like the way you put the things. I can’t agree with you more about the pedophiles thing and it is not fair to say that homosexuals are children. Like Rebecca me and my brother were victims of same abuser and were constantly abused for 9 years and the person (step mother) by whom we were abused wasn’t a homosexual, she was just a sick woman who liked to have sex with children and she didn’t have a gender preference. Later years I discovered she abused 10 more children beside me and my brother.Now I’m mother of two children (sons- 9 and 13) and my brother is a homosexual and I feel good when he is around.

Your blog is wonderful, I know that it is written for male survivors of sexual abuse when they were children, but this woman finds many healing words written here that apply to her as well.
Your comments about pedophiles not being either homosexual or heterosexual is so very true. I have managed to get into discussions with people who say that homosexuals are child abusers and that priests who are pedophiles are really gay.
Ugh.
Like you state so eloquently, a pedophile is a mentally ill person who only wants to have sex with children. But most have no clear preference. While some do, their real preference is simply CHILDREN. Most of the time their victims are who is convenient. Who can they gain trust with and have time alone with. They seek out positions where they will be trusted with children, male or female, it does not matter.
As a parent, I know that if I had daughters, I would not want them alone with a man, any man, even a priest or pastor, for long periods of time. But with my sons, I saw no reason not to let them be with an adult male for any period of time. Had this story broken sooner, I think my position would have been a lot different.
I am a survivor of sexual abuse, I had a brother who was a victim of the same abuser. It was a man, he did not care that I was a girl or my brother was a boy, we were only convenient and accessible. The abuse of my brother was unknown until he committed suicide at age 34.
My brother was a straight man, I am a lesbian. I was before the abuse began. Not being able to confess I was lesbian because of the way society perceives me, as less than worthy of human rights, led to me in a way, to not being able to report the sexual abuse. I wish I had, maybe my brother would have gotten the help he needed.

hi.i really enjoyed the film, although it was very difficult to watch because it was so intense to see all that suffering! i had to pause it a couple of times. but i think amy berg did a fantastic job telling the story in such a sensitive way. anyway,
i am wondering how distribution for these kind of films work. how did you find out about this film? and do you think it got enough exposure? what do you think can be done to get the message across and help bring to light these issues? how can films like amy berg’s get to larger audiences?

Any member of clerical status (clergy) that violates the trust placed in them by this, or any, type of criminal act, should be defrocked, castrated, and prosecuted to the filled extent of the law and their superior should be charged with conspiracy in the crime No IFs, ANDs, BUTs, and no exceptions.

The Vow of Confidence is not meant to and should never be used as an excuse to cover up criminal behavior in the church.

I completely agree, it seems the stance he is taking is almost arrogant and irresponsible in regards to knownand unknown abuses from some individuals within the Church. Especially where the Church has been instrumental in concealing this.
